Conviva is proud to announce that it received the Data Streaming Case Study of the Year Award at this year’s Confluent Current conference in Austin, Texas, an annual event focused on the latest trends and innovations in the data streaming industry.
Confluent’s annual Data Streaming Awards recognizes organizations that are harnessing the power of data streaming to transform their business and provide value to their customers and communities. Past winners include Uber, Walmart, LinkedIn, Pinterest and NASA. At this year’s event, an award committee of 13 independent companies along with Confluent recognized the Conviva® Operational Data Platform, for real-time processing of viewer quality of experience (QoE) insights during high-profile live streaming events, including the record-breaking streaming exclusive of games during last year’s professional football season.
Partnering with one of the world’s largest streaming media providers on streaming-exclusive NFL games, Conviva ensured the delivery of a seamless experience for football viewers by computing and troubleshooting user-perceived quality of experience (QoE), including rebuffering, video playback failures, and subscription and paywall issues, in real time. During one game, the Conviva platform processed 3.6 billion events per minute and 7 billion stateful metrics per minute, allowing one of the largest media streaming providers in the world to monitor the experience of more than 16 million users and react in real time when issues with user experience occurred. Without Conviva, identifying, computing, and resolving these users experience issues in real time – and at such a massive scale – would not be possible for streaming media providers.
Conviva tackled three problems during this high-stakes, massive-scale data streaming event:
- Full-Census, Comprehensive Experience Data Computing: Ingesting, normalizing, and sessionizing real-time QoE data across 16 million unique viewers requires significant computational power. Conviva designed its Operational Data Platform to enable teams to act on client-side telemetry data for all users and from every device in real time—including all user actions and associated app performance system response data. Our unique approach with fine-grained, stateful QoE modeling enables technology, operations, and business teams to optimize digital experiences, including live streaming events and everyday app engagements, as well as identify and resolve issues, in real time and at a massive scale.
- Time-State Analytics: To compute metrics that capture the true viewer/customer quality of experience, the Conviva® Operational Data Platform is powered by state of the art stateful streaming analytics engine , known as Time-State Analytics, to make sense of all actions within a viewer or app session. Unlike simple counts, these stateful quality of experience metrics involve computation over time and sequences of events, unlocking deeper insights into the real-time impact on user engagement.
- AI Alerts & Anomaly Detection: Conviva AI Alerts automatically surface cohorts of users with specific quality of experience issues—for example, those experiencing video playback issues on Android mobile devices in Ohio. AI Alerts deliver automatic root-cause analysis by analyzing system response events to pinpoint the underlying cause of an issue and enable immediate resolution. For live streaming events – from professional sports games to Black Friday sales events – AI alerts help teams identify and address any issue as the viewer or customer is experiencing it.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from Confluent for our work during the previous NFL season,” said Keith Zubchevich, President and CEO of Conviva. “It is a proud moment for the entire Conviva team, and this award is a testament to the hard work we’ve put into ensuring our customers, including the world’s top streaming providers, can deliver world-class, uninterrupted streaming and app experiences to their viewers and customers during the moments that matter to their businesses. This success is a sign of a broader shift toward more large-scale live streaming events, but also for the possibilities of measuring true user experience across all digital touchpoints beyond streaming.”
